Interview With Tara Hayes

Author of: From Irrational to Rational: 15 Natural Ways to Reduce Anxiety

Q&A

Where are you from originally and where do you reside now?

I am originally from the United States. I live in South New Jersey.

What made you decide to write and publish your first book?

I wrote and published my first book because I was documenting my process of how I overcame worry, fear, and anxiety to regain control of my life. Most of my childhood and early adult life was plagued with anxiety. Once I learned how to manage it with a simple plan, I wanted to show other women that they can get through it and live a happy, successful life.

How would you describe your books to first-time readers?

I would describe my book as a very intimate, relatable experience filled with informative and practical techniques to reduce anxiety.

What unexpected or surprising thing did you learn during the process of writing and publishing?

During my process of writing and publishing, I learned that I was really struggling with imposter syndrome. I wrote and published but was afraid to tell anyone about my work. I feared judgment from other people by choosing this path. It took me 3 months to publish my author accomplishment on my FB profile. Sometimes I still deal with imposter syndrome but it doesn’t stop me from making moves for my Author / publishing company. I work on building my dreams everyday.

If you could, what advice would you give to your past self before embarking on this journey?

I would give my past self the advice of not comparing myself to other people. Enjoy the process of building the business and the audience. As long as I stay consistent the audience will continue to grow. Don’t be too concerned with who’s not supporting me. My tribe will find me and follow me. I can naturally attract the people I want to serve. I do not have to chase them.

How many people would you ideally like to reach with your books?

Ideally I would like to reach thousands of working women with my books.

What has been the biggest challenge and frustration during the process to date?

The biggest challenge and frustration has been slow growth of my medias and inconsistency with the selling of my books. Also presenting my offer to people and sustaining / building relationships with potential readers / clients. I have two Facebook Groups that aren’t growing. And the people in the groups don’t engage so it’s tiring starting a conversation with a group of people that just don’t interact.

What are your biggest strengths when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?

My biggest strengths are that my writing style is relatable. I’m a real person that many people can see themselves in. I am self-published so I can published my own work as well as others through my publishing company, Tarafied Tribe Publishing. I have great marketing resources that teaches me how to present my offer. I can promote via Instagram, my Author Page, also my blog page as well as Pinterest.

What’s your biggest weakness when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?

My biggest weakness when it comes to writing is that at times I have writer’s block and can get somewhat discouraged. With publishing it takes me some time to get content together to publish. I don’t want to come off as salesy to people so presenting my offer has been a struggle. It seems that no one wants to spend money. Or very few want to spend.

When do you think you will write your next book?

I do not have a date for when I will write my next book. I do have two books written to date.

Are you self-published or did you use a hybrid publisher or a traditional publisher?

Self-published.
